Do you find keeping up with social media changes harder than keeping up with the Kardashians? You’re not alone.
As a social media marketing professional, I know only too well how much of a challenge it is to keep up-to-date with the latest changes on social media platforms.
There are changes occurring all the time on social media. Keeping on top of them is essential to your business if you want to be in-the-know and stay ahead of your competitors.
And wouldn’t it just be nice to know in advance when they’re going to make a major alteration to something you use regularly so you can be prepared?
If you manage social media accounts for your own business or for your clients, how can you keep up-to-date with all these changes without sacrificing too much of your valuable time? Here are a few of my own suggestions.
BOOKMARK SOCIAL MEDIA BLOGS
Bookmark the URL for the blogs of the social media platforms you use regularly. Set a reminder to visit them weekly (Facebook and Instagram both have blogs).
SUBSCRIBE TO SOCIAL MEDIA BLOGS
To save time, directly subscribe to those same blogs to receive their new post updates in your inbox as they are published.
USE AN AGGREGATOR
To save even more time, use aggregator apps like Feedly to bring those blogs and others from the industry all together in one place.
SUBSCRIBE TO NEWSLETTERS & PODCASTS
Sign up to receive newsletters and listen to new podcasts from your favourite social media gurus. Two of my preferred sources are The Social Hub and Stevie Says Social. I’m a big fan of both Stacey and Stevie’s podcasts!
FOLLOW ON SOCIAL MEDIA
Follow the pages and accounts of your favourite social media platforms on social media. Oh, how very meta!
You certainly don’t need to read everything, every day. Try to at least dedicate 20-30 minutes a week to catch up on all the new things happening with the social media platforms you use frequently.
